Here is a list of a few fortuitous things I have learnt in the past years and that I’d like not to forget. It’s, basically, advice for myself—that I thought I’d share with you.

Stop idealising things.

Especially romantic love. 

It’s not that love is not great, it’s just that what comes after—when the butterflies take a trip back to delululand where they came from (and then you settle in, see the same person every day and have to cook for two when all you want is a yoghurt), love often becomes just another type of boring. Like living alone, just different. That’s totally okay. It’s a simple hedonistic habituation. 

Nothing is ever “OMG JUST GREAT, NEVER BEEN HAPPIER IN MY LIFE!!!” Everything eventually becomes real and the trick is to stop idealising other people’s ideal and start falling in love with your real.
