On Being Inside As An Outsider
It was one of those dinners that had no agenda for me, for it was in the world of art.
Very low stakes. I don’t even pretend to be a connoisseur. You should have seen me walking around Art Basel last week, giving in to my lowest instincts—we all have them, but I seem to indulge mine more than most—muttering the kinds of things only subcultural creatures like me think about:
“Oh, I could totally paint this.”
“Great, rocks painted in bright colors.”
