There is this place in Paris that everyone who loves the night has heard about. It’s red, dark and it is right here, in the middle of the city, not so far from from the Place Vendôme, the Palais Royal and the Louvre. You probably walk by it each time you visit.

It’s called Les Chandelles and it’s a sex club.

I think that understanding a city is also understanding its nights. My party days were well over by the time I settled in Paris, though I remember this one night following a friend to a private club, Castel, and seeing celebrities, politicians and news anchors snorting cocaine right there on the table.

It was an incredible vantage point to see where, and how the world we live in is being discussed. The Paris night is even more snobbish than its days - It’s a different, darker snobbery. I wasn’t meant to survive in there anyway.

Les Chandelles has this kind of a reputation. It’s said to be chic and exclusive, and you don’t have to dig much to find the list of famous regulars that gave…
