Can You Do Less?
On Deserving.
I decided to take myself out this morning, so I’m writing to you from Noir, my neighborhood coffee shop in Saint-Germain-Des-Prés.
It’s about nine, and the crowd is an inspiring mix of moms in Miu Miu and Celine, talking about school admissions, right after kids drop-off. Beautiful, mature women in New Balance sneakers and Alo Yoga pants, laughing as they’re showing each other pictures on their phones. From time to time someone on their way to work—I assume—pops in to get a to-go cup, wearing some Rocky Mountain Featherbed puffers, which is the discreet French it-item this season, it seems. Wear it with a belt for extra style points.
Everyone’s having the best time, and I’m getting grumpier by the minute.
Am I the only one working here?
