It would always go the same way.

There would be an interview, I’d ask questions and I’d be so friendly and they’d be so lovely and we’d say let’s try. They’d be so admiring and flattering and promising to be effective, pro-active and professional.

I had learnt to be honest about who I am and what I need. If you’re my assistant, you’ll have to manage my inbox and link with my team and help me with all parts of my work, but also help me managing my house and run errands for me.

I hope you’re okay with the word personal in the job title.

We would start and it would be a lot of work for me and the team, because we would have to teach them everything, show them the ropes, the culture and the vernacular. From how to respond to a client to where the best flower shop is to what to do on a photoshoot. It would take a while and there would be mistakes and delays and a thousand questions but with mutual efforts, we would hit a rhythm and things would start rolling.

A natural closeness, not a friends…
