There are so many things that I have tried and tested when it comes to food and nutrition.
I’ve tried low fat, I’ve tried keto, I’ve tried fasting, and I’ve tried intuitive eating (report: my intuition is to eat until implosion).
I’m not judging anything or anyone’s comfortable weight or nutrition choices. The secret is that we all have different needs, and the trick is to find what works for us and makes us feel joyful.
The only thing that has ever really worked for me has been to eat a little bit of everything, mostly healthy. Moderately. And the only way to measure moderation, since my appetite is not familiar with it, has been to count my calories.
I use an app to enter my calories every day. It has become a habit, so I know most of my food energy content, but it’s a way for me to stay on track, to organise my meals, and to motivate myself.
And also, for me, it works incredibly accurately. I know exactly how much and in how much time I’ll gain weight if I add 400 calories (a croissant) (one of my péché mignons) to my diet.
Counting your calories won’t make you healthy. I could definitely eat all of my calories in chocolate chip cookies if I wanted. Some people find it obsessive, I find it playful—and it's been such a great tool in my toolbox that I thought I’d share :)
PS The app I use is Lose It! (not sponsored!) but there are many others that I haven’t tried!
