I’m not going to try to recap the last few years’ drama with my hair. It would be like subjecting you to watching the whole 51 seasons of The Young And The Restless. So just know this: I’ve been going through a major identity crisis regarding my hair.
In my dreams, my hair is long and luscious, and I run into the fields like a dark-haired version of a Timotei ad.
Then I open TikTok and, of course, I get influenced to want a bob, but I fell into that trap many times and promised myself I’d NEVER do it again, because my hair has untameable volume* and a mind of its own. I can leave the house with it looking perfect and catch myself in the mirror mid-day looking like Fran Lebowitz (who is a beautiful woman, but not the woman I want to be).
And then I still, sometimes, want to cut my hair short and roll back into the joy of these glorious and carefree days of my late thirties, but I tried that too, and for some reason**, now it gives Chris Jenner (who is a beautiful woman, but not the woman I want to be).
In real life, my hair is constantly up, as you know, because when it’s up, I know how I look from every angle, no atmospheric change can kill my capillary vibe, I always feel put together…
And, I have to admit, I feel prettier and more elegant than with my hair down. Always.
I was told one day that I am, simply, a “hair up girl,” and that I have to accept this about myself. At first I took it as an insult, but now, I am starting to kind of believe it.
In the meantime, I am lost in the roundabout from hell, not knowing where to go and what to do. And since the only thing I’ve never tried is to have it really, really long, I thought I’d give it a shot.
So, if you were wondering, this is the process I am going through right now.
See you in 2030 when my hair has finished growing.
*This is a message for my fellow voluminous hair sisters: if you’re about to give in to the bob because of TikTok, just let me say one word: mushroom.
**I think it’s called middle age.
My latest Letter was about how I don’t need healers anymore (for now!)
My latest Note was about my autumn palette; red and brown, the two colours of the season, are perfect together.
My latest Instagram post is about one of my favourite things to do in life, walking in nature with my beloved dog Lulu.
Doré is still THE BEST coolest effortless French skincare line (not just because I created it!)
If you have any questions, let me know here! Big kiss!
I’m nearly 55 and have waist length hair. I started growing it in earnest around age 50 when it was a Bob. I’ve never had it that long my entire life. Keep up the commitment, long hair is awesome!
Long hair, yay! Braided pony tails are the best ❤️
