True Quiet Luxury, A Manual.
Quiet luxury has been ruined. What began as a genuinely brilliant idea became a TikTok trend, then a meme, then a Zara collection.
But true quiet luxury really is so good. It’s understated and refined. It’s rare and personal. It’s occasionally absurd. And it almost never comes cheap—though cheap doesn’t always mean money. Let’s see…
—
1. No apologies.
Luxury is feeling like you belong exactly where you are. It might trigger a reaction in others, and that’s not a good reason to change anything.
—
2. Time? Better—and more mysterious—than a Birkin.
Example? Deciding that one day a week is off.
“Oh, I don’t work on Wednesdays” and not explaining why—or how you can afford it.
Other fantastically luxurious things I’ve heard:
“I don’t take any appointments before 11pm.” “I don’t go out after 7.” “I always take August.” Something in me bristles when I hear these. Who are they to— And then I stop. Could I do the same?
—
3. Taking ten years to do what others do in one.
Not feeling bad about it, not even questioning it.
