I’m 62 and was so relieved at 60 because now I can exhale and say “I’m 60, I don’t have to look or dress a certain way” not that I ever did but you can feel the pressure!! I don’t dye my hair, I don’t worry about what style of clothing I wear, really no one cares, they really don’t. So give yourself some grace and embrace your 50s!! After all you have step daughters lol.

"Now, let's talk about socks." Awesome. (...and I am in an absolute need for new socks, so thank you not only for the laugh, but also for the instruction.)

Haha! Loved the remark about why are my baggy jeans are fitting like skinny jeans!! I am 53 and learning how to live my life now while coping with the symptoms of menopause. LOVE the socks btw!

Ooooh thanks for that Calzedonia link. I'm so frustrated with socks that fall down and bunch up in my boots. Yuck! Any shorter boot sock recommendations?

I loved this post today - baggy jeans fitting like Skinny jeans has been a common theme for me this year.

Socks!!! I was just looking at my sock drawer the other day and feeling really uninspired - I never knew socks could inspire but here we are and it’s -27 in Toronto today (my home). Thanks for sharing the Calzedonia link - they look beautiful.

Looking forward to catch the last live - currently approaching 50 (48!!) and starting to notice changes 👀

Hi! I Love the boots!!! Will you share where I can find them. Be well and know that the wellness journey can be elusive and full of hidden potholes. I treasure your humorous writings! Sending love. ❤️

I just went to Paris where it was extremely cold-28 degrees. Not the temperature I had imagined for some strolling around with a side of shopping. In the end all I bought was a bunch of wool socks- albeit very superior socks from Tabio. It’s a mecca for weird toe socks and every other type of sock. For some reason, I’m into red socks with loafers. They cheer me up.

Tabio is great.

This winter, I am surviving with knee-high Falke socks (and my baggy jeans on top of them). I swear by Falke — they have the softest, best sneaker socks, and all sorts of comfortable, warm and good looking socks for winter. Btw, I am hearing about red being all the rage this season, so yes, red socks are my favorites

I second Falke. Always elegant and good quality.

This really resonated with me. I am so glad you wrote this.

I was always interested in fashion but never thought it was meant for me. I didn't think I was pretty enough and I didn't think I could create a style for myself.

I started experimenting in my mid-thirties when I moved to NYC. Since then, it's often been a struggle to find and/or evolve a style, especially because I mostly subsist on other people's hand me downs. But overall I was getting the hang of it.

But I am now 55 and my face, which used to look much younger than its years, has suddenly caught up me. I have bags under my eyes. My face seems to sag. I always look angry even if I am not. My hair is thinning and becoming coarse.

As a result, the second-hand clothes, disheveled hair, and costume jewelry that made me feel cute/interesting/unique suddenly look inappropriate and incoherent. I don't know how to embrace my age and find things I love to wear. I feel like either I'm in costume/trying too hard or invisible and boring. I want to age gracefully, but I don't currently have the skills to figure out what's right for me.

But it's nice to know other people are experiencing similar things.

Bleuforêt is another French brand worth trying. Their tights are great too.

Gosh. The only socks I have are the ones I knit and walk around the house in. Garance, you don’t need socks, you need footies. A bare ankle is a beautiful thing. The only proper socks I have are M&S very thin ankle height socks because footies don’t do well in boots. I’m bare ankled all the time. Even in winter. And with a slide/mule loafer, even better.
