Same sexy bob/mane conundrum. Decided this morning I am cutting it. I have been using Udea The Hair Pill for about 2 months…it is helping! Udeawellness.com
For decades I colored my own hair with Garnier light natural brown and Clairol Root Touch Up inbetween which got compliments from my hairstylist. I had a lot of grey. I finally gave up during Covid like so many and embrace a lovely white grey. You know when it’s time. Doubt you’re there yet - so try a “natural” brown. I think that was the secret sauce.
I hear you on the trying to grow it out. I tried during 2020 and finally realized that I am a bob girl. I have been using Codeage Hair supplements and have noticed thicker fuller hair. It takes a few months but it really works for me. I also dye my own hair. I combine 2 colors and use the kind they use in salons where you have to mix with a developer. Your regualr colorer should be able to give you the exact solutions they use for reference. You sometimes can getthem to do a kit to travel and use. Good luck.
For years, I used to dye my hair with BioKap before I decided to go grey. The trick for me was to use a lighter colour - I think it was „dark blond” for my darkish brown hair with maroon streaks. I ws always happy with how it turned out.
I've been coloring my own hair since I was in my 20's (I'm 50 as of this month), and most people assume my hair color is natural unless they see me on a regular basis and have witnessed the very gray/white root grow out when I've been too busy to re-dye it. I agree with the other commenter that mixing two colors may be the best way to get the right amount of dark color while avoiding the the fake-looking too dark/too solid color. If that seems too risky for your first time, go with a color that is at least one shade lighter than what you think you want because it will look a shade darker on your hair for about the first week or so depending on sun exposure and hair wash schedule. It may take some trial and error, but you're already kind of suffering through that with new hair colorists anyway. I would highly recommend any of the L'Oreal hair dye kits. I've used them for years, and the one time I didn't, I ended up with zebra striped hair. The upside is that home hair dyes are really gentle these days (I have fine, wavy hair prone to frizz and poof), and if you mess it up, and need to re-dye it right away, it won't really harm your hair. I once dyed my hair three times in one weekend to fix a bad at home dye job—the zebra hair episode I mentioned previously or when my favorite L'Oreal color was discontinued (during Covid lockdowns!), and I had to test run some new options from their other lines.
Informative
Oooh - Garance - chic like a Bond girl.
I’ve been following you for ages and I’ve always thought short hair suits you best. Thanks for the product lists.

Take care if you use Minoxidil oral, because it can grow all your hair...face, legs, etc. You can try it with mesotherapy
