The Note #62
Sweater Quality Check

I love a sweater, and I always love a crewneck.
For years I thought V-necks were the way to take advantage of the volume of my—ahem—generous décolleté—until I realized that, for mysterious reasons, most of the “rules” about shapes don’t really apply to my body.
Turtlenecks always seem like a great idea—until it gets a bit warm and you find yourself trapped in an unescapable wool prison. That said, they were the solution my idol, Nora Ephron, had found to hide her “turkey wattle.” She should know—she literally wrote a book called I Feel Bad About My Neck (please read!).
So, you know, one day I might get there too, singing the praises of a good turtleneck. (Or maybe it will be singing the praises of my plastic surgeon)(oh come on, we all think about it sometimes!)
In the meantime, I’m sticking with my crewnecks.
Anyway, let’s talk quality for a minute.
By now, I think we all know that each year, COS comes up with a selection of fantastic cashmere sweaters at unbeatable prices. Every TikToker out there swears by The Row’s Ophelia sweater—and I might go Row (uh-huh) one day—but for now, I prefer to buy a palm tree. (That’s for the Morocco house: every time I’m tempted to splurge on something, I think: “I could buy a tree for my garden instead.” With four Ophelia sweaters I could get a pretty big phoenix palm. Now that’s chic.)
For similar quality—wool and cashmere—Co makes incredible knitwear too. I have Co sweaters I’ve worn for ten years and still love.
The one above is a light 100% cashmere sweater from Uniqlo, and I think it’s perfect—not too sheer. I like a cream-colored sweater, but not anything see-through.
And the one below? A bit of an oddball. It’s a sweater with shoulder pads! I’m officially becoming my mother in the 80s, which is not a bad thing to become. Also, shoulder pads are actually a great trick to reduce a visual impact of a generous décolleté.
Bon—let’s be honest. The Frankie Shop is great for design, not always for quality. But I’ve had a few pieces from them that I’ve worn so much, I thought they deserved a mention.
Next thing you know, I’ll REALLY be my mom and just buy shoulder pads with velcro and stick them under anything I wear. Come on, we all think about it sometimes ;).

In my last Letter, I wrote about my husband—how he’s brilliant at some things, hopeless at others, and somehow impossible not to love anyway.
In my last Note, I wrote about finally finding the perfect boot.
In our last Live, we talked about our wonderful community and, as always, a lot more. My connection was interrupted, which is why the recording is missing the first few minutes.
Let’s meet again TODAY, at 6pm Paris time. I can’t wait to see you!

At Doré, we launched two new incredible serums!!! They are formulated with a proprietary blend of silk peptides and natural ingredients that deliver visible transformation but do not irritate or sensitize your skin. Both are exclusive to Ulta Beauty and you can learn more about them here: Peptides Extreme Fermeté and Peptides Bouclier Intégral. I love them!

So I am too crewneck and I suppose an oddball too :)). I did not realised the sweater has shoulder pads. But you speak as if you did not wear shoulders pads with velcro ?? I did it in 80ties, we laugh a lot with friends remembering that period :). My mother had with a friend a wool store in the 80s. We had beautiful pants and sweaters, they went to Milan to buy the wool and after they made the models in a workshop of our city. I remember we wore them with shoulder pads :).
Sweaters are great. I love autumn and I love sweaters. Wool and cashmere ones, of course. Acrylic and polyester sweaters have become a real plague of our times, as they do not decompose and end up littering the world's deserts.
