I am sorry to interrupt the programming of my quest towards a style more personal with a lowly report on trends, but the other day I was walking past COS in my glorious city of Bath, and you won’t believe what I did.
Well, I’ll tell you what I did.
I went in.
Look, I really, really tried to ignore it, emboldened by your reactions to my latest Note where I was hypocritically poo-pooing the algorithmic stylewash we’re all going through, but bloody hell, the pull was strong.
And especially the pull of a brown coat I saw through the window.
I know. Brown. So original.
I couldn’t help it. I put it on, and, long story short, I bloody bought it. And a sweater. And a belt.
And then that same night, on my way to a romantic date with my new coat, I suddenly felt the call of a red lip. Something I hadn’t done for so many years. And it looked GREAT. Because red and brown, the two colours of the season, are perfect together. Damn!

Just to redeem myself, I have to say that brown fits really well into my new style fantasy. I hadn’t shared the extent of my Pinterest board with you yet, nor had I my shopping board—but there is a lot of English Countryside meets Ivy League meets Lauren Hutton meets ME (yes, me!) meets Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor (yes, the late Queen)—but cool.
So, will you forgive me for being so predictable, just this time?
This, above, is my Autumn Palette shelf!
A part of the selection may contain affiliate links, which means I get a small commission from things you buy (it doesn’t cost you anything) this is a way to support the free section of The High Light, and my croissant budget.
A très vite!
My latest Letter was about how I don’t need healers anymore (for now!)
My latest Note was about how I want to stop buying the same thing as everyone else at COS (ahem!)
My latest Instagram post was just a photo of my new home and it did very poorly because nobody cares about single photos anymore (Ahah!)(It’s all about carousels now!)(Should I do a little tutorial about all I know about IG?)(Which is not much, but still?)(Let me know in the comments!)
Doré is still THE BEST coolest effortless French skincare line (not just because I created it!)
I care about single photos. please do not stop. thank you. Also, you can change your mind all you like, no need to apologize. we are allowed to vacillate.
Girl. Don't be so hard on yourself. You're living in Sussex. You don't have to be a style queen. Just dress with whatever you have in your closet to suit the weather. (I'm glad you got wellies) If you want to up your game, get some Hermes scarves and shawls, since there will always we some wind and precipation, and they are perfect for handling that in a stylish way. Breathe a deep sigh of relief. You are in a place where the social signifiers aren't focused on dress.
