My ex- husband and still friend, is a Kiwi who bore a passing resemblance to your Graham when said ex- husband had a beard. Must be the Scottish genetics…Anyway, he shaved it off when he finally finished his PhD and our son, who was about seven at the time, freaked out completely and took days to get used to the idea that that this clean shaven man was not an imposter. The surreptitious sideways looks were hilarious 😆. All I can say is be prepared…

This resonates. My husband and I live in a quieter part of Australia (Wollongong), a place where all the friends my age have children. It feels like whenever we make plans, something happens with the kids and they can't make it. I get a little lonely here, although I'm someone who is interested in life and entertaining myself. We are looking to move somewhere where we have friends in more similar circumstances around, and an area I enjoy more. I love the beaches, the fresh air and beauty of the Illawarra, but at heart, I'm a city girl who likes to be near my friends for coffee catchups, where I can easily go to the movies, and the things I really enjoy being more accessible. After almost 8 years here, we are going to look for a place in Melbourne or Sydney.

You're inspiring Garance. You seem like someone who makes changes when you know things don't feel right. I'm 44 and still working on that.

Reading your thoughts always sounds relatable and "aha-ish" at the same time. Good luck with your new place in Paris. Me myself – to my surprise, because like you it was never ever going to happen – decided it was time after 14 years to move back home and bought a house (I'm still astonished with myself)

Was also just in Paris…wishing for a little pied-à-terre! So, home and was catching up on your letters, I searched my email and saw that I started following you in 2014! 10 year anniversary! I also from time to time meet up with my younger self…well, hello and thank you for everything! 🙏🏼😎💖
