That photo so perfectly embodies the “femme” vibe you’re writing about. I personally love that look — it was def my collegiate vibe — but now the thought of a mini skirt feels laughable and the idea of mustering up the outfit feels like a massive undertaking. Part of this is because I, like you’ve said, am so much happier in cozy clothes!

Bonjour! I had slumped fully into casual wear as I'm an artist and always covered in oil paint. But 18 months ago I got ovarian cancer, and as I went through chemo etc I started taking lots of care in my clothes and turbans. I started dressing in more colour and that's continued now I'm well again. I loooooove a beautiful shirt dress. In Auckland at the moment it's so humid. But some metallic berkies and a semi sheer shirt dress and I'm happy. Oh and I have this cool new curly grey hair! Tres chic ;) You always look a million francs G x

I like these little Notes so much! I am reading them in bits and pieces during my night shift rotation which leaves me frazzled and yearning for comfort, which i exactly what I found in them. like chatting to a lovely friend who makes me feel better. finally took the plunge and got a paid subscription!

a well put-together outfit, a little polish and poise makes one feel so much more aligned. I love that feeling, how we create our ideal selves through the clothes we choose, the lipstick, the jewellery. It is a powerful tool! it is like magic!

This is my kind of style. You radiate coolness in my words, Garance. I’ve embraced short skirts, fitted clothes, and flats throughout my life (though I love stilettos, my height keeps them to a minimum). As I approach 60 this coming January, I am as committed as ever to staying true to my style.

Completely understand and agree! I just turned 51, but I started to feel the same way you are feeling now when I was 49. I made myself a promise to not let my busy work and mom life take over my life. So I started dressing nicer, but still about comfort, and doing things for myself, like a massage, or facial every so often. I feel so much better about myself! So do you!

I relate to your feelings in this post so much. I have always been attracted to more feminine, classic and even tailored looks. Perhaps it’s not avant garde or cool, but I don’t care. I always have and always will dress for myself. My clothes make me happy, and they make me feel smart and empowered, including many skirts similar to the one here. I like to jazz things up with color, or interesting pattern choices and fun jewelry. I hope you have fun with this new direction above all. And to echo what others have said, it’s great seeing someone closer to my own age (mid 40s) as a style reference. Thank you, Garance.

If I had legs like yours, I might rethink my outfits. But as I don’t, it’s bottoms with stretch and sneakers.

Oh G,

Aah this post, thank you for displaying the law of attraction, your shoppinglist has a few items on them which I already own and lots of new inspiration.

For a fashiongirl like me, going on 47 next year there are not many muses to look up to, but posts like these are a little reminder that I'm doing well :))

Even when your on a different journey which involves way more than fashion, I'll take style advise from an old fashion gall like you any time!!

Thanks a bunch!

Sabrina
