As I am embarking on my 3453th “health journey,”* I thought it would be good to share that my main inspiration is my dog. She is incredibly fit, and all that with a simple, intuitive approach to her everyday health.
1/ Exercise everyday.
Lulu likes to keep in good shape, which is why when I take her for walks, she makes sure she’s able to run herself to panting at least a few times. If that doesn’t happen because I have to keep her on the lead, she becomes nervous and she’s not her truest self. Learn from it, G, learn from it.
2/ Take your vitamin.
Everyday she lays in the sun in a state of abandoned reverie, absorbing her vitamin D. Sure, it means that, at 8 years old (meaning 48 in human years, Lulu and I are the SAME AGE!), she now has a few sun stains** (not unlike her mother). But she’s not trying to hide her maturity; she goes as far as flaunting her whites (unlike her mother, on her way to cover her damn roots yet again; getting older is a full time job, etc***).
3/ Fast.
Sometimes she won’t eat for a day or two and I never worry because she’s always done that. I think these are moments when she feels like she needs it. Same thing when she’s a bit sick. I love seeing how she naturally knows what her body needs. Sometimes she’ll even do a cleanse by eating fresh grass. Who needs a fasting retreat, right?
4/ Shake it off.
Anytime she feels stress, she yawns to relax her muscles. And she shakes it off. Dogs shake often to release tension, and literally do away with bad vibes. I do the same too, usually on a small rebounder, but I can do without—just shake my body like a lunatic. It works like a charm.
5/ Stretch.
OMG this Note is getting too long. Obviously, dogs invented downward dog, they do it 500 times a day and we should do that to.
6/ Sleep.
A lot. Obviously.
(Sorry, I am trying to keep The Note to under 300 words because I know you have other things to do, but I always fail.)
Another time, I’ll tell you the five things Lulu taught me about love.
*I think I must have eaten about 50 croissants and 20 pains au chocolat in the last few weeks, and that was the healthy part of my diet.
**Do I think I should put sunscreen on my dog sometimes? Yes I do.
***I talk about why I don’t go grey here.
Did I create a dog shopping guide? You bet I did! I love creating shopping guides and I loooooove a stylish dog, even if said dog doesn’t give a damn—she just is a much better creature than I’ll ever be. It can double as a gift list for any of your dog owner friends. GENIUS!
