When I was young woman reading Herman Hesse and pretending to be intellectual, profound and complicated, I was dying to wear glasses.
But didn’t need them.
Well, my revenge has come. After a few years of toying with reading glasses, now I really do need them (or I can’t see what I type and I send very messed up texts.)

Recently, I was telling my stepdaughter Honor about how I’m trying to evolve my style to look less like every influencer on the planet. As we were walking in the streets of Bath, I was explaining the looks I was drawn to, and she turned around and told me, oh, you’re going for Dark Academia! It’s great! LOVE IT!
What?
It has a NAME?
Do kids have a label for everything?
Now I feel like an awful cliché, even though my version of Dark Academia is quite bright. It’s more Neutral Academia. Yeah. Doesn’t sound as good.
Clichés which, as you know, have been the theme of my life in the past few months. It’s been a humbling ride in the Defender, thank you very much.
Anyway, I have decided to accept my lack of originality and to enjoy the smooth and paved roads of my new style journey.

And this is how I finally bought a pair of tortoiseshell glasses. Round and classic and Ivy Leaguey.
Thirty years in the making, and Hermine* is back! She is mysterious! She reads books! She is scandalous! She looks over her glasses and you fall in love! Or better even, she ignores you and you’ll die of passion!
Oh, look! Here she is, in the library! She looks so smart! She so intellectual, profound and complicated!!!
*Hermine, The Steppenwolf heroine!
First, because ‘tis the season, here is a gift idea: a subscription to The High Light! I know, who came up with such a great idea?
The last Letter was about all the wrong things I’ve said and some that have been said to me and one of them was “How do you look so good ON INSTAGRAM?” (to my face).
My latest Note was about my countryside life style and it came with what I think was my favourite shopping board ever (do I make these myself? Yes I do, it’s my favourite way to shop vicariously!)
Here is our last live.
Doré is my fantastic, luxurious yet affordable, sophisticated yet effortless skincare line. You can find it here! It’s (also) a great present!
If you have any questions, let me know here!
Big kiss!
Ohh maybe you should take a look at "Light Academia"!
Have a nice week x
According to Aesthetics Wiki (which actually exists, I didn’t know that either, I’ve just googled it), “Dark Academia typically involves intense and negative themes, including literary tragedy, existentialism, heartbreak, oppression, substance abuse, depression, and death. In contrast, Light Academia’s themes are generally positive, focusing on optimism, sensitivity, joy, gratitude, friendship, motivation, and happy endings”.
I reckon I’m probably Mood Swings Premenopausal Academia, which I’ve just invented but sums my own “aesthetic” pretty much up… 😅
