The Note #40

Giving up is sometimes a necessity.

I had promised myself (and you, too) that I wouldn’t cut my hair ever again. I had imagined growing a gorgeous lustrous mane, looking incredibly feminine and sophisticated.

And then my hair did grow as much it could, poor thing, and a mane it wasn’t. It was more like the sad fig tree that’s in the corner of your living room and is dying slowly, no matter how many magic formulas, changes of sun exposure or prayers you throw at it. Each time you look in its direction, a leaf falls flat on the floor, just to remind you that you’re a bad tree mom. Same with my “mane.” (Who the hell comes up with these insecurity-inducing expressions!!!?)

I was managing to make it look good for five minutes after washing it, and, basically, that was it. The soufflé would come down and I’d be back to hair up.

And that is why one day, I just gave up and chopped it all off.

And now I have good hair again. IT’S FINALLY SHINY. It’s still very broken from too much pulling (be careful with that sleek middle part!!!) but now that it’s shorter, I pull much less, so I have high hopes that soon it will get better.

Overall—if I may say so myself—it’s cute, versatile and most importantly, EASY. It’s a bit like the old me with short hair, but she’s grown up and has lost her edge is a bit more reasonable so she keeps it a bob because it’s what everyone else has she’s cool.

I am still mourning over my dreams of very long gorgeous hair, but I’ll live :)

PS Here are a few things I did / am considering to do. 

Hair density, dammit!

I’ve been trying some serums (Act+Acre, Typebea) and will let you know how these work (so far the Typebea has made my roots horribly frizzy but I’ll manage if it works)—it takes at least three months to see results—and I am considering going on Minoxidil. 

Texture…

I finally got the Dyson Airwrap, which is so amazing it deserves its very own Note.

Wild card?

After another colour disaster in a salon in Auckland (I just think it’s hard for anyone to get it right the first time and when you travel a lot it’s a lot of first times), I feel like I need to take this question into my own hands. 

Is anyone doing their own colour and feeling satisfied? If so, please share which ones and how, because I’ve been trying but so far the results are just okay.

Typebea cream. I love the smell and the fact that just a tiny bit on dry hair helps… Okay, mostly I like the packaging (I do buy most products for their packaging and I am not proud of it) but it’s quite good!

3 more inches oil. Just incredible to soften my hair. The best hair oil I have ever tried and the packaging is not remarkable at all so you can actually trust me on this one.

Briogeo shampoo: No silicones! I love this brand.
